Update Log
Version 0.6
Big update! New Squeaker type: House Mice. Mice as in plural, you play as the mother mouse who can deploy a cluster of baby mice to defend their territory. Any cheese that enters the radius gets slowed by the baby mice nipping at it. Three seconds after any cheese enters the baby pit, the pit disperses. House Mice can only deploy one baby pit at a time, the pit will disperse if the player deploys another one, switches Squeaker type, gets untagged, or leaves.
The map has been entirely decorated. Now you can walk around (and roleplay in) the new home themed map, with different distinct locations like the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room, and play room. All text now has a new pixel style font. The maximum hop range for the Hopping Mouse has been increased significantly. Expect to see the full release of the game soon. Once the title art (and some polishing) is in place, the game is ready for official launch.
Version 0.5
There is a new Squeaker type: the Hopping Mouse! This mouse can bounce right over any obstacle with a short 0.75 second windup. Hold Space to see your target marker and release to hop in the direction of the marker. The marker follows the last direction you moved in and will move closer to you if the intended location is interrupted by a wall.
Version 0.4
The cooldown of the Cheddar Track cheese was reduced from 12->7 seconds
Cheddar Track windup time reduced from 0.5 -> 0.25 seconds.
Mimelette stun duration increased from 1 -> 1.5 seconds.
Fixed bug where Mimelette mimes appeared underneath objects.
Fixed bug where squeakers remained squished after being tagged.
Fixed bug where tunnel menu remained open after being tagged/untagged.
Added title information.
Version 0.3
Each player can select a username to appear over their character. They can also view the full player list by hitting Escape. Moved the character selection UI to inside the Escape menu. It can also be brought up by holding Tab. There is now chat in the game. The server sends out messages about players joining, leaving, changing usernames, or being tagged, but each player can also type out a message to their desire.
The map has been expanded and tunnels have been placed at key locations around it. Each cheese has its own ability. Swift can dash, Cheddar Track creates a slowing cheese field, Grouta can traverse using the tunnels placed around the map, Mimelette can create decoy cheese that stuns any squeaker attempting to tag it. There is also a new Squeaker type: Mole Rat. The Mole Rat can travel using the same tunnels Grouta cheese can, only faster.
Version 0.2
Fixed a bug that made every player's camera zoom instead of the one being tagged. Added jiggles to the cheese when they move and a tip-tap walk for the squeaker. The Brown Rat now has the ability to expand their field of view for a brief time to get a look at the map before it goes on cooldown. Also added online player counter and updated UI colors.
Version 0.1
I've spent the last couple days learning about multiplayer networking (spoiler: it is much harder than you think), I finally figured out what I needed to do in order for each client (player device) to synchronize who is tagged and to recognize when somebody tags another player.
Your cheese character and other player information successfully send over the network. Now you can get up to ten players per server to chase each other around and hide from the squeaker.
(Pressing L will swap your role to get the game started)
Future Plans
Each cheese character will have a unique ability that allows it to better evade the squeakers.
Different squeaker types that can use their arsenal of abilities to track and trap the cheese.
Map will be larger and more interactive.
Better visuals obviously underway.
Chat feature that allows you to connect with other players (along with custom usernames)
Please note everything is subject to change at my discretion. This game is scheduled to take no more than a month to develop as an introduction to online multiplayer and the scope will remain that way
